On the consecration of 'Ram Lalla' in Ayodhya on January 22, India rejoiced, but amidst the festivities and the glimmer of untimely Diwali lights, a crisis unfolded! Delhi and the surrounding areas trembled as a formidable earthquake rocked southern China, precisely in Xinjiang, at 11:39 PM on Monday.

According to the National Centre of Seismology, reports suggest that the earthquake, measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale, originated 80 kilometres deep within the Earth's surface. This seismic event didn't spare neighbouring Pakistan and Afghanistan, stirring unease in the region.

While the intense tremors were felt in China and the Delhi-NCR region, fortunately, there are no reports of casualties or damages. However, the residents of Xinjiang and Delhi, in the dead of night, rushed out of their homes in fear.

Social media buzzed with videos capturing swinging chandeliers and fluttering curtains, depicting the intensity of the quake.

Uzbekistan was first shaken by the earthquake on Monday at 11:30 p.m. Just 30 minutes after that, China, including Delhi, was shaken by the aftershock.

Interestingly, just last week on Thursday, a similar strong earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. The magnitude of the quake was 6 on the Richter scale. That earthquake also shook neighbouring countries, from Pakistan to Kashmir to North India, including Delhi.

Naturally, the recurring earthquakes are instilling a sense of anxiety among the populace. The earth's subtle shudders continue to be a cause for concern across borders.
