Tripura Cultural Two Treasures: Tribals' Traditional 'Rignai Pachra' And Tripureswari Temple's 'Pera' Gets GI Tag

In a significant stride towards preserving its rich cultural heritage, Tripura, the northeastern gem of India, celebrates the global recognition bestowed upon two of its iconic treasures.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced with elation that the traditional sweet offering, 'Pera,' from the renowned Tripureswari temple, and the indigenous attire, 'Rignai Pachra,' worn by tribal women, have been honored with the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

The 'Pera,' a delectable sweet made from milk and sugar, has been an integral part of religious rituals at the historic Tripurasundari temple for centuries. Nestled in Udaipur, Gomati district, this temple holds immense spiritual significance, akin to other revered sites across India.

Simultaneously, the 'Rignai Pachra,' a handwoven cloth cherished by tribal women, not only serves as their traditional attire but also symbolises love and respect when presented as a gift. Woven with skill and dedication on thousands of handlooms in tribal households, this attire reflects the cultural richness and craftsmanship of Tripura's indigenous communities.

Dr. Saha lauded the efforts of the women's cooperative societies, particularly the Udaipur Chandrapur Mahila Cluster Level Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited and Killer Deowanbari Mahila Cluster Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, whose relentless dedication contributed to this momentous achievement.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of election campaigns, Dr. Saha, accompanied by media representatives, visited the Tripurasundari Temple to seek blessings and share his thoughts on this remarkable milestone. He emphasised Tripura's commitment to the 'vocal for local' initiative, which aims to promote indigenous products and traditions on a global platform.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister highlighted the ongoing beautification efforts at the Tripurasundari Temple, envisioning it as a premier tourist destination, attracting visitors from far and wide to witness the state's rich cultural tapestry.

As Tripura basks in the glory of international recognition, propelled by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha's visionary leadership, its journey towards progress and preservation of heritage stands as a beacon of inspiration for the nation.

With each accolade, Tripura reinforces its identity as a custodian of cultural treasures, poised to captivate the world with its timeless allure.
