As the week begins, a major update on weather patterns emerges, indicating that despite relief from intense cold waves, parts of North India remain under their grip. Reports from the meteorological department suggest that while Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and some northern states have found respite from the severity of winter, the onslaught of Western disturbances and cyclonic storms prevents complete relief.
A cyclonic storm is active in Northern Haryana and adjacent areas, positioned approximately 1.5 to 3.1 kilometres above sea level. Additionally, a low-level cyclonic storm is observed in the Marathwada region and surrounding areas. Beginning February 17, a new western disturbance in the Western Himalayas and adjoining regions could further impact weather patterns.
Yesterday, February 14, witnessed thunderstorms and rainfall, magnifying cold conditions in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and other states. Conversely, Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram experienced mixed weather conditions.
According to weather forecasts, significant changes are anticipated in the coming days across the country. Delhi-NCR may experience another round of rainfall. Meteorologists suggest a possibility of snowfall in mountainous regions such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu, and Kashmir, potentially leading to a further drop in temperatures on the plains.
Weather experts predict rainfall and snowfall from February 17 to 21 in Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
In addition, SkyMet and Weather.com reports indicate light to moderate rainfall is possible today in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Sikkim. Furthermore, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala might experience scattered rainfall in the coming days.
Between February 19 and 21, scattered rainfall is likely in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Western Rajasthan, and Western Uttar Pradesh, with Odisha expecting heavy rainfall in one or two places.
Yesterday's rainfall in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal ranged from light to moderate, with Bihar's Patna and Muzaffarpur experiencing heavy rainfall. The downpour led to waterlogging in many areas, especially in some districts of Uttar Pradesh.
The upcoming days may not bring relief to Western Bengal's northern regions, with a minimal chance of rainfall. Darjeeling and its surrounding areas might see slight chances of light rainfall.
Conversely, nine districts in South Bengal may experience scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over the next 24 hours. Although some cloud cover is expected, rainfall is not anticipated in other districts.
