Kolkata to Shine with the Dev Deepawali Festival – A Glimpse of Varanasi in the City of Joy!

In a spectacle that mirrors the grandeur of Varanasi's Ganga Aarti, our beloved city of Kolkata is now illuminated with the same divine Aarti. This Ganga Aarti has been meticulously organized by a non-governmental institution under strict governmental supervision. But this year, it's not just the Ganga Aarti; the city is all set to celebrate Dev Deepawali with grandeur.

Dev Deepawali, celebrated on the full moon day of the Kartika month, is making its presence felt in the city of Kolkata. Originally initiated in Varanasi, Dev Deepawali is observed fourteen days after Diwali. On this day, it is said that over ten lakh earthen lamps are lit along the banks of the Ganges, illuminating the entire riverfront.

This year, Kolkata's Babughat is where the grandeur unfolds, echoing the ambiance of Varanasi's Ganga Aarti. According to sources from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, it's been confirmed that the Dev Deepawali festivities will take place on the evenings of November 26th and 27th.

To add more charm to this celebration, it's been revealed that the entire stretch from Princep Ghat to Babughat will be adorned with radiant lights, turning the riverbank into a mesmerising display of colors. The exact distance and extent of the riverfront decorations will be decided on Tuesday. On that day, Kolkata's Mayor-in-Council, Tarak Singh and city officials will visit the riverbank to assess the situation of the banks.

It is also anticipated that the brilliance of the festival will extend beyond the riverfront to Babughat and the surrounding areas. Additionally, the Princep Ghat and adjacent ghats are expected to shine in the glow of the festival lights.

Sources suggest that the honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, may grace the event with her presence. Nearly eighteen thousand lamps will adorn the Babughat, and it is confirmed that this will mark the beginning of an annual tradition of celebrating Dev Deepawali in Kolkata.

So, as the days grow shorter and the nights longer, Kolkata is all set to embrace the divine spirit of Dev Deepawali, bringing the magic of Varanasi right here on the banks of the Hooghly River.
