Today, 'Jiyo Adda with Labannya' welcomes the esteemed singer Lagnajita Chakraborty as its special guest. Despite her constant battle with laziness and her aversion to making reels, she has infused Bengali songs with a refreshing twist in her music. Even after a decade in the music industry, she remains enamoured with love songs. In an open-hearted conversation on a breezy spring afternoon, she shared not only her latest tunes but also candid anecdotes from her life journey.
Jiyo Bangla: First of all, how are you doing?
Lagnajita Chakraborty: Not very well. I've been dealing with some physical complications since the beginning of the year. Moreover, today marks my last working day before I go on medical leave due to surgery scheduled for tomorrow.
Jiyo Bangla: "Valo Lagar Gaan," your latest song, tell us about it.
Lagnajita Chakraborty: "Valo Lagar Gaan" is quite different from my usual style. It's being released through Ritam's YouTube channel. We've collaborated closely with Ritam's team on this project. The song, penned by Ritam and composed by Tamalika, explores a minor chord progression, which is a departure from my usual major chord style. The accompanying music video has been meticulously crafted, and I believe it will resonate with the audience once released.
Jiyo Bangla: How was the past year for you? Did it meet your expectations?
Lagnajita Chakraborty: I never really had specific expectations. I've been in the industry for a decade now, with my debut album, "Basanta Ese Geche," released in 2014. I never dwell too much on expectations, but I do have personal aspirations and ambitions.
Jiyo Bangla: Why don't you have expectations? Is it out of laziness or something else?
Lagnajita Chakraborty: Thank you for using the term "laziness." It's quite apt. Sometimes, despite the desire to accomplish things, the motivation just doesn't come, and I end up feeling drained even with minimal effort.
Jiyo Bangla: How have you evolved over the past ten years?
Lagnajita Chakraborty: Some of my expectations have indeed been fulfilled. I used to be very rigid earlier, but now I've mellowed down. There have been various other changes as well.
Jiyo Bangla: What are your upcoming projects?
Lagnajita Chakraborty: I have quite a few projects lined up for 2024. Firstly, there's a collaboration with Anupam Da titled "Hridoyer Rong." It's our first duet. Sauraj Da's "Bhutpori" has been released recently. Additionally, there's "Pokshirajer Dim," where I've contributed a song alongside Pranjal Da. The versions of the other songs are yet to be heard, so I'm not sure about them.
Jiyo Bangla: Everyone seems to be focusing on YouTube and digital platforms nowadays. Are you planning to invest or plan anything in that direction?
Lagnajita Chakraborty: No, I personally haven't made any plans in that regard. I've delegated that responsibility to my team, which handles it efficiently.
