Women Take The Spotlight In Bengal At The Woman Of Substance Award

Sonar Sansar is one of the largest Jewellery shows in the entire Eastern India. The second edition of 'Woman of Substance Award' from Bengal had its curtain raiser on 7th February at Galaxy, The Park Hotel, Kolkata. 'Woman of Substance' is a one of its kind initiative. It showcases women who have excelled in their field of work and more importantly who play a pivotal role in the lives of people around them. Every woman is believed to be unique in their own way, 'Woman of Substance Award' introduced by Sonar Sansar throws light on women who have passed hurdles, survived and made it to the place they are in, but have never been in the limelight, have never seen her name on the headline of a daily even though their silent efforts have brought about a huge change to society.

Veteran Actor Barun Chanda, Famous Dance Educationist and Social worker Smt. Alokananda Roy, Ex-Vice Chairman of GJEPC and Regional Chairman IBGA  Pankaj Parekh, Shri. Gautam de, Regional Director, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Shri.Tamal Kanti Mukherjee, renowned advocate, Managing Director, Candid Communications Ms. Paromita Ghosh, working President SSBC, Mr. Samar Kumar De, President, SSBC, Mr. Subir Sen, Managing Director, KNC Services Mrs. Kranti Nagvekar were present in the press conference of the event and are also a part of the jury.

It was announced that there would be a four Day Expo where Jewellery houses from various parts of the state and the country shall be participating. KNCS along with Swarna Shilpa Bachao Committee shall felicitate women who have made outstanding achivements in bringing a difference to the society. Sonar Sansar, the oldest jewellery show would be held from the 16th - 19th February 2018. Sonar Sansar provides a huge platform to jewellery houses and designers to exhibit their unique collection of jewellery. Swarna Shilpa Bachao Committee collaborated with Sonar Sansar to make the exhibition even more unique.

Showcasing itself from the 16th February-19th February, the exhibition shall display attractive jewellery collection. Sonar Sansar which started way back in 1997, and is presently jointly organized by KNC Services and Swarna Shilpa Bachao Committee since 2015 has pulled in some of the top jewellery houses from the city to participate in the 4 days expo. Senco, B.C Sen, Tanishq (who are even associate partners for 'Woman of Substance Awards'), TBZ, Malabar, PJC, Indian Gem & Jwewllery Creation, Benud Bihari Dutta, Bengal Jewellery, D.K Basak, Guinea Emporium and Manikchand Jewellers being a few of them.

The names of the awardees that have been finalized by the jury for 'Sonar Sansar – Woman of Substance Awards' were announced at the press conference: Soma Biswas, Sports professsional Athlete, in the sports category, Bani Basu, Essayist, Critic and well known Bengali Author whose books have even been made to films like 'Seth Pathorer Thala' in the Literature category, Swati Banerjee, Public Service, Moupia Nandi in the media category, Nandita Roy, Director, in the films category, Mamata Shankar Actress in the Actor category, Nayantara Pal Chowdhury in Entrepreneurs, Agnimitra Paul in the Fashion category, Urmi Basu in the Social Work category, Varda Goenka in the Jewellery designer category, Sohag Sen, Theatre Artist, in the caegory of Performing Arts, Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta, Bengali Musician who specializes in Rabindra Sangeet, Stotras and Shlokas and has a record of singing Rabindra Sangeet, in the category of Music, Priti Patel, Manipuri Dancer, in the category of Dance, Veena Bhargava in the category of visual art; are the gems on the crown and are the ones most suited for the 'Woman of Substance Awards.'
