Winter's Arrival: Bengal Braces For A Chilly Weather Shift And Scattered Rainfall

In a much-anticipated update from the Weather Office, South Bengal is set to experience a shift in weather conditions starting today, with winter's chill expected to make its presence felt from Saturday onwards. The eagerly awaited cold wave is predicted to bring a gradual drop in temperatures, with night-time readings possibly reaching as low as 3 degrees Celsius by next Tuesday.

Over the next 24 hours, scattered light to moderate rainfall is forecasted for the districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri in North Bengal. While the impact of the cyclonic disturbance in the region is slowing down, some areas in South Bengal may still witness partial cloud cover, ensuring a picturesque interplay of clouds in the morning sky.

The Weather Office suggests that the north-westerly winds, entering South Bengal from Friday evening onwards, will mark the beginning of winter in the region. Although not every part of South Bengal will be covered in a blanket of clouds, there is a possibility of scattered clouds lingering, contributing to a mild and pleasant winter ambiance.

Conversely, in North Bengal, partial cloud cover is expected to persist, particularly over the five districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri. These areas might experience scattered light to moderate rainfall over the next three to four days. Sikkim could also witness light snowfall, affecting the Darjeeling region.

Kolkata, the capital city, experienced partly cloudy skies this morning, with a minimum temperature of 19.4 degrees Celsius. Although today's weather showed a slight departure from the norm, the true essence of winter, marked by a drop in temperatures, is expected to manifest in the coming week.

As the city braces for the cold, the Weather Office assures that while the week may not bring an immediate onset of winter's chill, a gradual increase in cold waves is anticipated in the following week. Yesterday's rainfall measured 30.4 millimeters, providing a refreshing prelude to the winter season.

In summary, South Bengal awaits the subtle embrace of winter, with the Weather Office predicting a picturesque amalgamation of clouds and a gradual drop in temperatures, setting the stage for a festive winter season in the region.
