Who Thought Lime and Brick Could Be So Beautiful?

Are you tired of your mundane life? Want a break? Or do you wish to live like a king for a day? Then pack your necessities for a day and take the train to Bandel from Howrah. Get off at Khannan station; then take an auto or toto to the Itachuna Rajbari. So, West Bengal has a rich history and from Mughals to British have ruled this state. Hence, you can imagine that there is history in every village, town, and place of this state.

Today we are going to tell you about the Itachuna Rajbari which is also known as ‘Bargee Danga’. The term Bargee has been derived from the same name given to the Maratha warriors by the people of Bengal. The Bargees came to Bengal in the seventeenth century and the palace was built in 1766 by the ancestors of Safallya Narayan Kundan; who was the fourth generation of those Maratha Warriors. The palace derived its name from ita- meaning brick and chuna- meaning lime.

The palace is now run by the 14th generation of Bargees, Dhruva Narayan, and Basav Narayan. To maintain the palace Dhruva Narayan and Basav Narayan has turned the palace into a heritage hotel. The palace is over 310-years-old. There are still rooms with furniture as old as the palace. The palace has been like many other palaces used as a movie set like ‘Rajmahal’ in Bengali and we all remember Ranveer Singh’sLootera’; it was also shot here in Itachuna Rajbari. It has its own garden and ‘Thakur dalan’ where every evening prayer is offered to the deity. There is also a ‘Shiva Mandir’ to the opposite of the palace. The palace’s beauty increases on nights of the full moon and its treat for sore eyes. Away from the city chaos Itachuna Rajbari is a great place to unwind and relax. We have already told you how to reach here! So, what are you waiting for? Hit this destination this weekend only.
