West Bengal to Produce Soft Rice

Rice which is traditionally known to be cooked in hot water from now can even be made in cold water.

Bardhhaman or Burdwan which is known to be the chief producers of rice in Bengal now shall produce rice which can be directly consumed with ‘Gur’ or ‘Doi’. This rice is to be known as ‘Soft Rice’ as declared by the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself on the ‘Maati Utsav’ held on the 2nd of January.

The history of this kind of rice goes 500 years back and was initially produced by the Assamese and was useful for the soldiers who hardly got food during the war period. This kind of rice immediately dissolves when comes in contact with water. Hence these were useful for the soldiers.

Soft rice is being cultivated now in the Nadia and Phulia district by the local farmers.
