The singer will perform on a recreated version of The world is ours during the FIFA World Cup Trophy tour's Kolkata leg.
When the FIFA World Cup Trophy lands in Kolkata on the 22nd of this month, it will have someone special, apart from the football crazy Bongs, singing its glory. Kolkata's very own didi, Usha Uthup will be performing a recreated version of the FIFA global anthem The world is ours, originally sung by David Correy.
Usha Uthup, who was associated with the World Cup Trophy tour in Kolkata in 2010 too, was approached by Coca-Cola, the sponsor company, to perform on the occasion again, this year. She has decided to give the original anthem a zesty twist, especially for the soccer city of the world, as she likes to call Kolkata. "I am thrilled and excited that the organizers have chosen me again to be a part of this tour. The track in question is a superb one and we have tried to make it more zesty."
The track has been recreated by Tubai, who has been working with Uthup for long. "We have tried to retain the original essence of the track, but, at the same time, have incorporated some punch into it to make it more energetic," he said.
Uthup is also trying to get hold of poet/lyricist Srijato to pen some Bengali lyrics that she might incorporate in the recreated version.
The singer, who calls herself a 'football fan by default', credits the City of Joy for her football fascination. "This city is soccer crazy and staying here has turned me into a football fan." So, is she excited to meet Brazilian footballer Carlos Torres, who is scheduled to accompany the trophy on this year's 88-city tour? "I hope I get to meet him," she signed off.
