UPI Ticketing Service In Metro: Commuters Can Now Pay For Tickets Using UPI In Kolkata Metro!

Starting Tuesday, May 20, the Kolkata Metro has introduced a UPI payment-based ticketing system from Sealdah onwards to Sector Five on the Green Line-1 corridor. This service extends to the remaining seven stations along this route, including Phoolbagan. Commuters travelling from Sealdah to Sector Five on the Green Line-1 corridor can now avail themselves of the convenience of UPI payment-based ticketing at all booking counters.

This initiative, a collaboration between the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation, the State Bank of India, and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), aims to streamline the ticketing process and ensure commuters can purchase tickets hassle-free. With this system, commuters no longer have to worry about having exact changes or facing ticketing issues.

To avail of this service, passengers need to provide the destination station's name at the ticket counter. Afterward, they can scan the queue and code displayed on the dual display board using their smartphones to make the necessary payment. Once the transaction is complete, passengers will receive a paper ticket with the queue and code, allowing them to proceed with their metro journey.

Moreover, besides purchasing tickets, passengers can also recharge their smart cards through this system, as stated by the metro authorities. This initiative reflects the Kolkata Metro's commitment to enhancing the passenger experience and embracing digital payment solutions.

Furthermore, plans are underway to expand this service to other lines, including Green Line 2 (Esplanade to Howrah Maidan Station), Blue Line (Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash Station), Purple Line (Joka to Majherhat Station), and Orange Line (Kavi Subhash to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay Station), ensuring a seamless travel experience for commuters across the metro network.

The implementation of this initiative marks a significant step towards modernising Kolkata Metro's ticketing system and promoting digital transactions in public transportation, ultimately benefiting commuters with greater convenience and efficiency.
