Ujaan - The Reel Life Rosogolla Inventor

He's sweet, young, savvy and the protagonist of Director Pavels next film titled "Rosogolla". Yes, Ujaan Ganguly — the son of celebrated actor-directors Churni and Kaushik Ganguly is debuting in this movie. Ujaan has been prepping for long to get into the shoes of the iconic confectioner-entrepreneur of 19th century Bengal. Nobin Chandra Das, known as the "Columbus of Rosogolla", is someone who made Bengal - The State of Sweetness. Ujaan, the 18-year old is excited about his debut film.

When asked how Rosogolla, the film, came about, the Jadavpur University student answered:

"When I was in Class X, I did a musical called Smike, which Shibu mama (Shiboprosad Mukherjee) had seen. He then said that he would cast me some day. When my mother asked me the other day to take his call, I knew what was coming. But I had no clue it was the lead role".

The unit started shooting in Baruipur. For a year now, Pavel has been doing his best to be truthful to the era in which the story is set. The team even roped in National-Award winning art director Nitish Roy to create the sets. The story is an old era plot where the character will be seen struck by the wonder of invention while he is lost in his own world. That apart, the film depicts Nobin Chandra Das's platonic yet childishly sweet romance with his bride, Khirodmoni.

Director Pavel seems no less impressed by the young actor. "I had youngsters coming to me for the role. I would think how to turn them into Nobin Chandra Das. When I first saw Ujaan, I realised this is my Nobin. His simplicity, coupled with his innocence, is his USP "Pavel said. The production is helmed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee.

Pavel seems to be apt about his characters. His earlier film, Babar Naam Gandhiji, won rave reviews and praises from critics.
