The legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty will be honored with the ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’

Indian actor Mithun Chakraborty will be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. For more than five decades, his work has enriched the Bengali and Hindi film industries. For this, he will now receive India’s highest cinematic award.

On Monday, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw shared the news on social media. Mithun will be presented with the award at the 70th National Film Festival on October 8.

Mithun Chakraborty began his film career in 1976 with the Bengali director Mrinal Sen’s film ‘Mrigayaa.’ However, he later established his acting prowess in the Bollywood industry at the highest level. He worked in several hit Hindi films like ‘Disco Dancer,’ ‘Ghulami,’ ‘Dilwaala,’ ‘Shiva Ka Insaaf,’ ‘Dance Dance,’ ‘Mujrim,’ ‘Agneepath,’ ‘Raavan Raaj,’ ‘Jallad,’ ‘Hitler,’ ‘Phool Aur Angaar,’ ‘Chandal,’ among many others.

However, his work was not only praised in the Hindi film industry but also Bengali cinema. He acted in over 350 films in his career. He worked in Bengali, Hindi, Odia, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and the Punjabi film industry. Additionally, he holds the record in 1989 in the Limca Book of Records for releasing 19 films as the lead actor.

Currently, Mithun is busy with his upcoming Bengali film ‘Shastri.’ He had already been awarded the National Award and the Padma honors. Now, he will receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
