সৃজিতের চোখের জলের কারণ এবার “উমা”

A Bengali film production house is all set to produce a movie on the real life story of Canadian boy Evan Leversage—known worldwide as ‘The Boy who moved Christmas’.

Leversage was suffering from a terminal disease. In 2015, his hometown, St George presented a spectacular Christmas celebration, when the whole town was lit up, houses were decorated with signs stating ‘Merry Christmas Evan’ while a parade of epic proportions were all arranged two months prior to 25th December in order to ensure that the seven-year-old was able to witness and enjoy the last Christmas of his life.

Evan Leversage’s story touched the hearts of many and attracted global attention, which included some prominent Hollywood personalities such as Ellen DeGeneres and Ashton Kutcher.

The forthcoming film ‘Uma’, produced by SVF Entertainment Ltd has taken inspiration from the life of Evan Leversage. The film is about a young Bengali girl, Uma who has been raised in Austria, and is battling with a terminal disease. Her father Himadri tries his best to bring her to Kolkata to fulfill her last wish of witnessing Durga Puja. As it was highly likely that Uma would pass away before the actual pujas started, Himadri put up an entire make-believe puja for Uma.

Director of the film, Srijit Mukherjee said that he was moved to tears after reading about Evan Leversage. He was in awe of the people of St.George and their motivation for coming together to prepone Christmas celebrations at such a huge scale, only for Evan. Srijit added that he intended to capture this rare act of humanity on celluloid so that the inspirational story reaches a bigger audience cutting across geographical boundaries. He also got in touch with Leversage’s mother, Nicole Wellwood, and told her about the movie he was making based on her son’s last Christmas.

Cast of the film includes leading artists of the Bengali film industry such as Jisshu Sengupta, Anjan Dutt, Anirban Bhattacharya and Rudranil Ghosh. Post production work of the film is on and it is slated to release in June, 2018.

Mahendra Soni, co-founder and director, SVF said that the story of Evan is truly touching and inspiring and that ‘Uma’ will help spread its essence to the audience throughout the country along with Bengal. He further added that SVF believes in promoting and producing path-breaking as well as trendsetting films and that ‘Uma’ will undoubtedly touch people’s hearts everywhere.
