The upcoming Kolkata book fair has prompted the Transport Department to introduce a special bus service catering to attendees. The decision was announced by the Transport Ministry after a press conference held last Wednesday.
In anticipation of a significant influx of people not only from the city but also from various parts of the state and country, the Transport Department aims to alleviate any potential transportation challenges during the book fair. This initiative is particularly targeted at book enthusiasts, ensuring a hassle-free commute to and from the event.
Transport Minister Snehashis Chakraborty, during the press conference at Kasba Transport Office last week, addressed the media, outlining the specifics of the special bus service. The service is set to operate from two designated bus stands near the compassionate and iconic buildings of Howrah and Sealdah.
Commencing from the 18th of January until the 31st of January, approximately 200 special buses will run daily between 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM. The routes cover key locations, including Howrah and Sealdah stations, adjacent to popular landmarks such as Parnashree, Shyambazar Park, Thakurpukur, Garia, Kamalgazi, Tollygunge Metro, Barasat, Bali Haat, Baruipur, Jadavpur, Santoshpur, Ultadanga, Rath Tala, and Belgachia.
To ensure the efficiency of the service, the Transport Department has stationed personnel at the compassionate and iconic buildings, including the Camp Office. They will oversee the entire operation, working in collaboration with Bidhannagar Police to maintain order.
For those unfamiliar with the routes or schedule, the Transport Department has taken the initiative to disseminate information through multiple channels, including announcements at the book fair venue and official communication channels.
This strategic move is expected to enhance the overall experience for book fair attendees, allowing them to focus on literary delights without concerns about transportation logistics.
