The vibrant city of Kolkata is set aglow as the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival kicks off today, promising an extravaganza of global cinema until December 12. The grand inauguration witnessed the charismatic presence of Bollywood icon Salman Khan, who graced the occasion at Netaji Indoor Stadium at 4 PM. Leading the inauguration was Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, surrounded by a galaxy of stars from Tollywood and Bollywood.

Salman Khan, clad in a stylish ensemble of a black T-shirt and blue trousers, arrived at Kolkata Airport sharp at 6:45 AM, greeted by a sea of fans. The airport buzzed with excitement as the actor extended warm gestures, acknowledging his admirers. Notably, renowned playback singer Babul Supriyo accompanied Khan, adding musical vibes to the festival's commencement.

Security was tight at the airport, ensuring a smooth arrival for the Bollywood sensation. Khan graciously interacted with fans, waving and expressing gratitude, setting the tone for a festive start. In a surprising turn, musical maestro King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, was absent this year, along with Amitabh Bachchan. However, the festival boasts an impressive lineup, with the likes of Anil Kapoor, Mahesh Bhatt, Shatrughan Sinha, and Sonakshi Sinha in attendance.

The event's host, Prosenjit Chatterjee, shoulders the responsibility of hospitality, ensuring a memorable experience for all. Adding a touch of cultural finesse, the inaugural ceremony will feature a dance performance to a song composed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, choreographed by the talented Dona Ganguly and her students.

Further enriching the festival, the screening of the film 'Deya Neya,' starring Uttam Kumar, Tanuja, and Tarun Kumar, marks its 60th anniversary, directed by Sunil Banerjee. The film holds a special place in the hearts of cinema enthusiasts, adding a nostalgic aura to the celebration.

As the festival unfolds, anticipation builds for the diverse array of international films, marking Kolkata as a hub for cinephiles worldwide. The convergence of cinematic brilliance, celebrity charm, and cultural vibrancy is set to make the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival an unforgettable extravaganza.
