Sabooj Sathi, Utkarsh Bangla To Receive Global Honor

Sabooj Sathi, West Bengal government’s flagship project has been selected for the UN-backed WSIS Prizes 2019 championship. On the other hand, Utkarsh Bangla was declared a champion project in the WSIS Prizes by ITU, a UN organisation working for the use and development of ICT, a day before. The state’s flagship skill development programme Utkarsh Bangla, was designed under the guidance of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, aiming to provide vocational training to school dropouts. The project was one of the five selected finalists among 143 projects in the ‘Capacity Building’ category. The final declaration will be made on April 9 in a prize giving ceremony at ITU headquarters in Geneva.

The scheme was launched in Bengal in 2015, which has empowered lakhs of school students since, by providing them free bicycles. The Sabooj Sathi project aims to provide support to students, especially girls and thus reduce the dropouts in higher education.

The state backward classes welfare department received an email from GalstayanTituhi of ITU saying “your project Sabooj Sathi Online 2.0 – wheels of change was among those top five most voted in the Category 7, ICT applications, benefits of all aspects of life– e-governance and we would like to congratulate you on this amazing achievement” on Wednesday.
