Rukmini And Dev Teams Up With Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s Upcoming Movie ‘Draupadi’

Filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee is all set to direct his upcoming movie titled ‘Draupadi’, teaming up with actress Rukmini Maitra for the second time after their previous collaboration in Binodini-Ekti Natir Upakhyan’, a biopic based on theatre legend 'Binodini Dasi'. Also, Dev will be collaborating on this movie with his production house, 'Dev Entertainment Ventures'.

On Friday, the teaser poster of the upcoming film 'Draupadi' was released on social media, which shows the face of a lion with a throne in front of it, fire burning on both sides, and a bow and arrow above. The poster for the film was designed by Ekta Bhattacharya. Rukimini Maitra shared the poster and captioned it, "Based on the novel "Yajnaseni" by Smt.Pratibha Ray, here goes my next.. DRAUPADI. Need all your love, support & best wishes as always!"

Based on the award-winning Odiya Novel ‘Yajnaseni’ by noted author Pratibha Ray, the film will explore the epic from Draupadi's perspective, who will be offering her character by representing patience, penance, and power.

Director Ramkamal Mukherjee said about the poster, "Draupadi was born from fire. The yajna image on the poster is a symbol of that. The lion on the poster represents the vow Draupadi took to bathe in the blood of evildoers after being humiliated by the Kauravas. The poster throne symbolises Draupadi first becoming a princess and later a queen of the Pandavas. And finally, the five arrows and a bow shown in the poster mean that Draupadi alone had to marry five brothers (Yudhisthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sahadeva)."

Dev Adhikari, the co-producer of the film, said, "It was only after seeing Ram Kamal's work in Binodini that I realised the extent of his visual representation skills. When he talked about bringing the story of Draupadi to the silver screen, I was sure that he would be able to do it right. And having seen Rukmini's fleet of performances as Binodini, I know why Ram wanted to cast her as Draupadi. It's going to be a great experience for everyone."

Meanwhile, Actress Rukmini Maitra said, "It feels good to be able to work with Ram Kamal again. It also helped me a lot to ease myself into a character that is very challenging to portray on screen. There are benefits to working with a friend, right? " She further said, "The Mahabharata is a subject that is very close to the heart of every Indian. It goes without saying that this is going to be one of the most challenging roles in my career after Binodini."

The motion poster for ‘Draupadi’ was accompanied by a background score composed by the Sourendro and Soumyojit duo. The Sanskrit verses in the poster were written by Ram Kamal himself. The director is currently finishing post-production work on "Binodiini Ekti Natir Upakhyan" while simultaneously conducting research and working on the screenplay for ‘Draupadi’ along with Paawaan Aagarwal.

Ram Kamal expressed his gratitude to the producers and Pratibha Ray for granting the film rights to her novel and the opportunity to work with Rukmini again. He also revealed that the film’s shooting will be done in Mumbai and Hyderabad, and the rest of the cast and technical team will be finalised once the screenplay is complete.
