It has come to light that Souvik Mitra is all set to debut as director with Punoshcho, starring Soumitra Chatterjee and Roopa Ganguly.
The director has been associated with Rituparno Ghosh since a long time who scored music and co-wrote the script for Hirer Angti. In addition, he also worked as an associate director in many of the maestro's films like Titli, Utsav, Shubho Mahurat, Bariwali and Dahan. He has even directed popular chat shows like Ebong Rituparno as well as Ghosh & Company.
Regarding the storyline, the film deals with a renowned Bengali author Animesh Mukhopadhyay, who reaches Delhi to receive an award. In fact, he is a 70-year-old writer and a family man whose son resides in the US. But that was not an ordinary trip. Subsequently, on his way back, he plans to spend 24 hours with the lady he fell in love with in the '60s. Her name is Mohona. Actually, he had only met her couple of times over four decades.
Mohona is a widow and resides in Golf Green, while her daughter studies in Santiniketan. Notably, the two lovers make the plan a success. Further, Animesh takes a flight back to Kolkata, just a day prior his 'official' arrival by train. But during the sojourn, Animesh falls ill and dies. Souvik informed that the story commences from there. On the other side, the world starts speculating about their relationship.
When interrogated if Rituparno was aware about Souvik turning filmmaker, he revealed that before Memories in March, he had asked him to direct a film with him as an actor. He had laughed it off as he had no idea that he could act so well. However, he was not aware about this film. He started working on the script only after his demise.
Souvik is ready to repeat the same team just like Rituparno. Debajyoti Mishra is scoring the music, while Debabrata Dutta is the chief assistant director. Arghyakamal Mitra is the editor.
The director disclosed that he could not get Avik Mukhopadhyay’s dates. Manas Ganguly, who has already worked with him on many projects, is the cinematographer.
Debajyoti, whose association with Souvik is decades old, commented that he had being to his music sessions, but currently there is a different kind of involvement. For him, it is great to work for friends. But he misses Ritu thoroughly.
