Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani Unveils Bold Investment Plans At Bengal Global Business Summit in Kolkata

The seventh Bengal Global Business Summit commenced yesterday, attracting industrialists and dignitaries from around the globe. The Chief Minister inaugurated the summit at the Bengal Global Convention Centre in Newtown.

On the first day, Mukesh Ambani, the visionary behind Reliance Industries, took the stage, emphasising investment opportunities. Since his last visit in 2019, Reliance Industries has invested 45,000 crores in the state. Ambani announced ambitious plans for the next three years, committing to invest an additional 20,000 crores across various sectors, including education, health, and agriculture.

Ambani praised Bengal as an 'ideal' investment destination, acknowledging the state's significant progress in the last four years. He highlighted Reliance's contributions, extending services like Jio Fibre and Jio Mart throughout Bengal. Moreover, Reliance initiated the country's largest bio-energy service to maintain environmental sustainability.

In a special gesture, Ambani thanked the Bengal’s Chief Minister for entrusting the Reliance Foundation with the restoration of Kalighat Temple. He expressed gratitude for the collaboration with local businesses, the partnership with institutions like Prabhuji and Biskfarm, and the success of Jio Mart in Bengal.

Ambani announced that all Reliance outlets in Bengal would feature products from local handicrafts, promoting the state's talent. He also pledged to establish a training institute, "Reliance Foundation," in Bengal and expand Jio stores to boost employment and support small to medium industries.

In a surprise move, the Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee appointed Sourav Ganguly as the state's Brand Ambassador, handing him the official letter on stage. The Chief Secretary, Harikrishna Dwivedi, clarified that Ganguly would not receive any financial remuneration for this role. Besides, earlier, for the first time, Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan was called the 'ambassador' of the state.
