Rajasthan Royals looks to get back in winning ways against Kings XI Punjab

In the inaugural year of IPL, Rajasthan Royals won the tournament. After that, they have never really been able to threaten sides with complete domination. This year, a lot was expected from the Ajinkya Rahane’s side but the Rajasthan outfit has failed to deliver. At present, Rajasthan Royals need to win every game to be in contention for the playoffs. Playing against Kings XI Punjab, life is not going to be easy as the Punjab outfit is playing really well with a much-balanced side. The likes of Chris Gayle and KL Rahul in the top have given much-needed respite to the Punjab team. Side by side, it has given seasoned campaigners like Yuvraj Singh and Aaron Finch good time in the middle to settle down. With quality spinners in Afghanistan bowler Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Axar Patel and Captain R Ashwin himself, the team has fared well in slower tracks also.

Ben Stokes, the mercurial all-rounder from England, has been a big disappointment for Rajasthan Royals this season. The same can be said about D Arcy Short too. Jos Butler has just started to play well but the likes of Sanju Samson and Ajinkya Rahane are too inconsistent as of now. Shreyas Gopal has bowled well and K Gowtham has been a saviour on quite a few occasions. Big money purchase Jaydev Unadkat has been a disappointment. KXIP do need to improve their middle order batting as well. Only Karun Nair has scored a fifty for them apart from the openers. If Rajasthan Royals wants to proceed in this year’s IPL, they need to play attacking brand of cricket today.
