The BSS School put up a colourful event of their Annual Sports for the primary section on December 20, in their school campus at Gariahat area in South Kolkata.
The event was inaugurated by ace table tennis player Poulomi Ghatak who delivered an inspiring speech for the children. “I have won many championships but could not win an Olympic medal owing to injuries and other reasons. I will love to see someone from Bengal win an Olympic medal in table tennis,” she said as she announced the sports meet open.
Later Mrs S Sen, Headmistress of the school read out the pledge for the students. A lesson of national integration is worth taking from girls between classes I and V who had put up traditional outfits of different states and partook in several innovative sporting events choreographed by a team of teachers led by Mrs Sen and Mrs S Pincha, the principal.
Parents were sitting on the corridors of three four-storey buildings which flanked three sides of the ground, were regaled by the performances of the little stars which were twinkling in broad daylight.
From roller skates to pyro stunts by karate girls and yoga, they seem to have learnt several skills thanks to the co-curricular activities of the school.
At the end the teachers let their hair down for a while and displayed their strength on the ground as they competed in a tug of war and an event for the parents was put up as well. In all, a morning well spent in the true spirit of sportsman spirit. “Winning or losing is secondary. What definitely matters is the spirit with which you participate. It will definitely go a long way in developing a team spirit and create make you a better human being in life,” said Mrs Pincha.
