Pasta and Pizza are things of the past… Posto is the next big thing for the foodies of Bengal

Something of the past still echoes through this deprived century, across the million alleys and concrete structures of Bengal: the aroma of finely prepared delectables with that inimitable dash of authentic Bengali spices, which, quite surprisingly, has caused noticeable deviation of millennials from pizzas and fries.

Bengali cuisine has always been unpretentious in its simplicity and delightful in taste. Variety, however, would be an understatement. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes offer innumerable choices, from delicately created 'mochar ghonto' to myriad recipes of the Hilsa. It would be a mammoth task, to subjectively describe the intricacies of the Bengali fare, but the youth of Bengal, despite the allure of Western gourmet food, have now taken to unraveling the mysteries of pure Bengali genius.

Notably, Kolkata abounds in places which offer a bona fide Bengali menu along with striking decor. The swanky Oh! Calcutta continues to attract college students and professionals on weekend sprees or dates. While 6, Ballygunge Place stands golden with nostalgia and incredible seafood, 'Koshe Kosha' creates gustatory wonders out of tender mutton for the expectant, hungry mouths. Incidentally, cities like Asansol and Durgapur have a string of such restaurants, for instance, 'Legends of Bengal' and 'Sholo Ana Bangali' are hubs for the youngsters who are eager to dig their teeth into 'bhetki-machher paturi' and ‘aloo-posto’ and ‘postor bora’ to be digested later with 'payesh', the dessert which becomes miraculous by the addition of 'nolen gur' during winters. Agreeably, it is a resonant fact that Bengali dishes are extremely savoury. One seeks taste and satisfaction along with a hip ambience, which is an unspoken need of this generation. Evidently, one can't ignore the tugging taste buds seeing eateries that offer both- a rather fading-yellow, rustic Bengali allure and unparalleled relish.

So, if you're bored of your average cheeseburger and fizzy drinks, it's time you head out for a true Bengali fiesta.
