Olympic Day celebrated by students in advance

Even when the Tokyo Olympic Games is a year away, the Olympic craze is still omnipresent. Maybe, this is exactly why the Olympic Day which is celebrated annually on 23rd June, was celebrated in advance by the students of St Lawrence High School. Hundreds of students participated in the celebration where they were joined by Roald Bradstock, aka the Olympic Picasso, who is an Olympic athlete and an Olympic artist from England who competed in the men's javelin throw event twice during his career in 1984 and 1988. Bradstock currently promotes the blending of sports and arts in the Olympics. The event was also attended by Dianne De Navacelle, a descendant of Pierre de Coubertin, a French educator who played a key role in the revival of the modern Olympic Games in 1896, along with Bradstock. Bradstock and De Navacelle spent hours with the students to make the event more happening. The main attraction of the event was the formation of a giant poster of Coubertin, founder of the International Olympic Committee and Olympic rings and the torch. 400 students took part in the formation each holding a placard to form the huge poster. Apart from this, a drawing competition named ‘Expressions 2019’ with a theme ‘sports-environment-peace’ was held in the school premises where 1,700 students from various schools participated. Father Sebastian James, the principal of St Lawrence High School said, “There is no better way to encourage a child’s self-expression than art. Through the event, we are also celebrating the Olympic spirit of friendship and bringing together people from different spheres.”
