Metro Services To Be Suspended For Two Days In Kolkata, Which Route? Know In Details

Kolkata's metro rail services will be completely suspended on a special route for two consecutive days in the upcoming week.

The decision was announced via a tweet from the 'X' (Twitter) account of the metro rail authority. According to the statement, metro services will be closed from Hemanta Mukherjee Station (Ruby) to Kavi Subhash Station on Wednesday, March 28, and Thursday, March 29.

The suspension comes as the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety is conducting a safety inspection from Hemanta Mukherjee to Beliaghata due to the inauguration of a new line. Consequently, there will be no metro operations on the arranged route during these two days, causing inconvenience to commuters.

The ongoing work on a segment of the arranged line, spanning from New Garia in the south to Kolkata Airport in the north, is nearing completion. This 32-kilometre-long metro corridor aims to provide comprehensive services to passengers. The portion of the line up to Hemanta Mukherjee Station is set to conclude soon.

The metro authority assures full-fledged services on this line, covering a total of 24 stations up to Kolkata Airport. However, the temporary suspension on the specified route underscores the necessity of ensuring safety standards before resuming regular operations.

This unexpected disruption highlights the challenges involved in expanding and maintaining Kolkata's metro network, a lifeline for many residents of the bustling metropolis.
