Following the footsteps of former Union minister Ajit Panja, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls the Trinamool Congress intends to print the logo of the party on different things of everyday use and distribute those among people in general.

The commodities would include sarees, T-shirts to cups. Panja, during his time as Congress candidate from Kolkata North constituency, had initiated it by printing the tricolour logo of Congress on several things such as caps, matchstick boxes, T-shirts and key rings. Together with his impressive public address, those had brought him a lot of fame. Later in 1997 when the then West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee leader Mamata Banerjee pulled out of the party to form her own party, Panja had been her trusted aide. He had won as a TMC candidate with the help of his unique methods of campaigning.

Taking a cue from those achievements of Panja, the present TMC too has decided to print the party logo on porcelain cups, wrist bands, T-shirts and even mobile phone covers. The TMC twin-flower logo will also have a slogan of ‘Trinamool Amar, Apnar Banglar’ (Trinamool is of mine, yours and of Bengal).

Party sources said that along with this mode of the campaign the party also planned to step up on social media to make a connection with people at the grass-root level.

A senior leader of the party said that these initiatives of Panja to reach out to the people in general and it had inevitably reflected on poll results and the party was hoping to replicate it this time as well through the distribution of goodies with the party logo.

TMC intends to take the movement to the remotest village of the state especially at places where the penetration of social media is relatively less. The idea is to make TMC a household name till the election begins. Together with that there would be campaigning on several media about the social welfare projects that the TMC-led government had carried out.
