Kolkata’s Emission Burden To Reduce!!

In an effort to reduce Kolkatas emission burden, the first set of electric buses hit the road, an environment-friendly mode of transport. To make commuting green, trams, metro, circular rail, suburban trains all have been put to use over the years making transportation and accessibility easier. 20 electric buses were flagged off on Wednesday, by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and another 60 are set to join the fleet this year. The buses, which have zero emission, will ply on three routes-Airport-Joka, Shyambazar-Nabanna, and Tollygunge-Bidhannagar. With the introduction of electric vehicles, Kolkata has a bigger opportunity than most of the other cities to phase in zero-emission mobility quicker because of its inherent advantages of a very strong public transport culture and short average travel distances.

Most of the daily trips are made on public transport, and electric buses will help improve the bus transport and passenger count. And if the autos and taxis are also electrified, it would contribute to the cause of bringing down the pollution level in the city.
