Kolakham is situated in Kalimpong hills of our very own Darjeeling district. You can visit the place at any time of the year. But winters are actually the best suited time to visit hills because this is the time when nature offers you its best.

How to reach: If you choose flight then Bagdogra is the nearest airport. From there you need to hire cabs or cars to reach Kolakham which is not less than 121 km. Flights are always available from the major airports like Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati. Jeeps are in fact the best mode to travel because of the hilly areas. If you are travelling to Kolakham by train then NJP is the adjacent railway station. From there it takes almost 3 hours to reach Kolakham.

What to see: If you visit Kolakham for a week then visit to Kolakham village, choudapheri, Chhage Falls, Lava monastery is must. If you have more time in hand then you can also pay a visit to Doars, Rishop, Lava Lolegaon, Tin Chuley, Charkol, Kalimpong etc. Shopping can be very entertaining in Kalimpong. The view of majestic Kanchenjunga is an extra treat for all. If you are a forest lover, then take a trail to the jungle nearby.

Where to stay: Visit to Kolakham should be well planned especially during the seasons. Eco cottages are available, but homestays can be pocket friendly too. Book hotels if possible but staying closer to nature can bring you more satisfaction. Foods are available in the home stays only and those are typically fresh and hand made.
