Professor Achyuta Samanta, founder of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), headquartered in Odisha said that a branch of KISS is being put up at Joka in Kolkata.
An initial investment of Rs 25 crore has been done to get the investment ready.
With a capacity of 1000 students, the school is expected to be functional in 2020. We will ensure that the building and other infrastructure required is ready and in January 2020 the first academic year of the school will begin
Samanta said at a press conference on Sunday.
He said that after the success of KIIT and KISS in Odisha, he wanted to open branches in Bihar, Chhatisgarh and Jharkhand. While land availability had been tough in Bihar, he said that Jharkhand government had allotted 28 acres of land in Ranchi for a branch of KISS for the tribal children.
Samanta had also gone across the border, joined hands with two NGOs and is in the process of opening two branches in Bangladesh – one in Jessore and the other one in Dhaka.
He also said that the 39th World Congress of Poets (WCP) would be held at KIIT and KISS, Bhubaneswar in October 2019 where over 500 poets, writers and Nobel Laureates from 100 countries would converge. Besides, 2000 writers and poets from India and another 2000 from Odisha are likely to partake in the Congress.
The World Academy of Arts and Culture (WAAC), a UNESCO-affiliated body, auspices the WCP, which would be taking place for the third time in India.
It was found out that KISS would be hosting the World Congress of Anthropology 2023 in India after a gap of 45 years. More than 15,000 delegates from over 150 countries are expected to participate in the World Congress, which is held every five years in different parts of the world.
