‘Jai Hind Jal Prakalpa’ water treatment plant to be amplified

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to boost the competency of the ‘Jai Hind Jal Prakalpa’ water treatment plant in Dhapa in Kolkata. The plant equips potable water to large section located off the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass and Jadavpur and its neighbouring localities, along with Kalikapur, Naskarhat, Anandapur, Madurdaha, Mukundapur, Patuli, Jadavpur, Baghajatin, Santoshpur, Garfa, Haltu and other blocks. The coarse water is sapped from Mayer Ghat in Baghbazar, on the Hooghly River. The project is expected to get completed within a year.

The current capacity is 30 million gallons per day (GPD), which is to be enlarged by another 10 million GPD to touch 40 million GPD and in this project more than two lakh people will be helped. The blueprint of the project is ready, and that, besides the work on capacity enlargement, water piper also needs to be plant in areas where residents have no access to piped water.
