India Beats Kuwait And Wins the 9th Title In The SAFF Cup 2023

India won the match against Kuwait 5-4 on penalties after it finished 1-1 throughout regulation and won the SAFF Championship 2023 Title for the ninth time on Tuesday. The match was held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.

In the first 15 minutes, Shabaib Al Khaldi took advantage of a mistake by the Indian defence and put Kuwait ahead. Sunil's team did not lose hope. Minutes later, there was an opportunity to score, but Lallianzuala Chhangte’s long-range shot was saved by Kuwait goalkeeper Mubarak Marzouq.

As the game progressed, In the final 39 minutes of the first half of the match, India again got a chance, and this time, Sunil Chhetri took the chance and equalised the scoreline at 1-1.

The first half of the match ended with the scores deadlocked at 1-1.

In the second half, both teams had enough chances, but neither could increase their score, forcing the match into extra time.

But both teams, despite getting several chances, could not score the decisive goal. At last, the final progressed into the penalty shootout, where after five rounds of penalty kicks, the scoreline remained 4-4 and the sudden death rule was applied. Mahesh Naorem scored, but Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu saved Khaled Hajiah’s shot, and the Indian Team had a thrilling win.
