How Was Sidhu's Journey From Doctor To Singer?

In the world of Bengali music, one name stands out: Sidhu, the lead vocalist of the band 'Cactus'. But Sidhu's journey to musical fame was not a conventional one. Twenty-one years ago, he made a monumental decision that changed his entire life trajectory.

Born as Dr. Siddharth Shankar Roy, he was destined to follow in the footsteps of his family and become a doctor. His parents, grandparents, and everyone in his family were in the medical profession, and it seemed natural for Sidhu to pursue medicine. However, his passion for music was always simmering beneath the surface.

Despite excelling in his medical studies, everything changed on February 3, 2003, when Sidhu had a sudden realization. He abandoned his medical career and chose to pursue music instead. This decision was met with skepticism and resistance, but Sidhu remained steadfast in his resolve.

From performing in small gigs to gaining popularity with the release of 'Nil Nirjone', 'cactus's first album in 1999, Sidhu's journey was marked by determination and perseverance. Despite facing challenges, he continued to pursue his passion for music, eventually becoming a household name.

However, his musical career wasn't without its struggles. Balancing his duties as a doctor with his commitments to the band posed a significant challenge. Yet, with the support of his friends and bandmates, Rahul and Joydeep, Sidhu persevered.

One fateful evening, Sidhu faced a dilemma. With a demanding schedule at the hospital, he had to choose between fulfilling his duties as a doctor and performing with his band at the Kolkata Book Fair. Despite his insistence on his absence from his bandmates', they couldn't leave Sidhu. Also, he doesn't want to miss out on the performance.

After seeing the problem faced by Sidhu, his senior doctor, Bhaskar, came forward. The hospital staff knew about Sidhu's singing and playing. There was a visiting hour in the hospital for one hour in the afternoon. So Sidhu was allowed by his sir to go to the book fair for three hours. Students will leave at 5 p.m. and return at 8 p.m.

Sir agreed. Sidhu went to the book fair happily and cheerfully. But he still didn't know what was waiting for him next. That had never happened before in his life. So he could not even imagine.

The book fair was held in Maidan. And Sidhu has to reach Sealdah. As a result, he has to return through Park Circus. Sidhu is returning to the hospital by taxi in the evening. A heavy traffic jam was created from Park Circus through Park Street.

When he arrived, the clock stood at half past nine! About an hour late. He raced back to the hospital. Sidhu found himself in the midst of a medical emergency. Three new patients had been admitted, and the situation was dire.

His sir, senior doctor Bhaskar, managed everything on his own. Then Sidhu went to Sir's room like a criminal. First, he talked about the traffic jam. After that, he sincerely apologised to Sir. He also thanked him for handling the duty. The senior heard everything. But he looked at the face and said nothing but 'OK'.

He felt guilty, so he went back. But he couldn't forget the whole incident.

The next day, after the completion of duty, Sidhu took a big decision. This decision led to a series of events that would change his life forever.

Ultimately, Sidhu's passion for music prevailed. He bid farewell to his medical career and embraced his role as a singer wholeheartedly. Today, he is revered as one of the most iconic voices in Bengali music, and his journey has served as an inspiration to many.

As Sidhu continues to captivate audiences with his soulful voice, he remains grateful for the love and support he has received throughout his career. For him, the decision he made twenty-one years ago was not just a turning point but a testament to the power of following one's dreams against all odds.

Sidhu's journey from doctor to singer exemplifies the transformative power of pursuing one's passion. Despite facing numerous challenges and obstacles, he remained unwavering in his pursuit of music, ultimately achieving unparalleled success and leaving an indelible mark on the world of Bengali music.
