A Walk Down Memory Lane

Kolkata has a rich history that is reflected in its culture, tradition and architecture. The city has innumerable beautiful buildings, most of which have interesting stories and are of historical importance.

The Heritage Walk Calcutta is a walking tour group that not only encourages Calcuttans to rediscover these buildings, but is also playing an active role in conserving the buildings that are falling apart. Founded by city archaeologist Tathagata Neogi and a group of scholars from the sphere of architecture, conservation and history, the non-profit group is mingling with and taking help from the locals in order to achieve their aim. The group recently came into the limelight after successfully planning the renovation of the oldest Parsi Fire Temple in the city and transforming it into a Parsi Museum.

The group organises several types of walking tours- the Colonial Cemeteries Trail, Murder and Mayhem in Old Kolkata, the Pilgrims Way and many others. All these trails have different routes, spanning over different places and monuments. For instance, the weekend Colonial Trail explores places like Bandel, Chinsurah, Hooghly and Chandannagore. The icing on the cake is that the group also takes care of the transportation, food and shelter for long tours, thus making it easier for the visitors. You can book a private group tour with your friends, family or colleagues and rediscover these known places.
