Green Energy Scheme lights up College Square

Before formally inaugurating the Green Energy Scheme, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation decided to do a test run by setting up 36 solar panels at College Square earlier last week.

These solar panels have the capacity of generating upto 15kW per hour. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has been assisted by Santi Pada Gon Chaudhuri, who is a solar power expert and is also the head of the Arka Renewable Energy College, in the city.

College Square is the second place in the city where these panels shall be formally introduced. Last year 50 such panels have been installed in Deshapriya Park and The Kolkata Municipal Corporation plans to set up these solar panels in 20 more parks all across the city.

The initiative taken by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Arka Renewable Energy College shall help save a huge amount of money which goes towards the electricity bill. Kolkata Municipal Corporation officials have claimed that once these panels are all set up in the desired places, an amount of Rs. 8 crore can be saved every year.
