West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankar has given his assent on renaming the Greenfield University of Darjeeling into the Darjeeling Hills University. Thus the governor on Tuesday has passed a bill for the same. This was revealed from the statement given by the Raj Bhavan which on Tuesday, 12th November had declared that the bill was passed.
The renaming of the Greenfield University into the Darjeeling Hills University was on the cards of the governor since a long time. This is due to the increasing demand from the local public of Darjeeling to change this universities name. The Greenfield University is a UGC approved university which is a few decades old. The local people of Darjeeling have been for a while protesting against the anglicized name of the University as a University with a similar name is present in the United Kingdoms.
“We are extremely happy as our efforts have finally brought colors today. Our demand to change the Universities name has reached the P.M which proves that the locals of Darjeeling are not neglected.” Says one of the students of Darjeeling. The people of Darjeeling are content with the new name of Greenfield University.
