Gateway to Nature’s Treasure Trove

Darjeeling is known as the ‘Queen of Hills’, that is true indeed; the beauty of this place is unparalleled. Just a few kilometers away from Darjeeling lies another place with breath-taking views; ‘Dooars’. The name ‘Dooars’ or ‘Dooar’ as said in Bengali literally means ‘gateway’.  It stands true to its name; this place is a gateway to Bhutan from India. The region has been divided into two regions Eastern and Western. The western part is the Bengal Dooars, whereas the eastern part is known as the Assam Dooars.

Like its adjacent areas, it depends on the production of tea as we all know that Darjeeling’s tea is quite famous. The economy of the region is dependent on tea, timber, and tourism.

The scenic beauty of Dooars attracts a lot of tourists and that place is nature’s treasure trove. Few of the places in Dooars that are a must visit for everyone who comes down here are:

Buxa Fort: It is located within the Buxa Tiger Reserve, which is around 30 kilometers away from the Alipurduar town. The fort is famous for the ruins of Detention Camp, that the British Government used for detaining the freedom fighters.

Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary: It is the habitat of the one-horned rhinoceros, which is an endangered species. This wildlife sanctuary is at the top of the list for tourists. Apart from one-horned rhinos, there are wild boars, peacocks, hog deer, sambhar, and others.

Gorumara National Park: Dooars is heaven for animal lovers. This is also another place where one can find Indian rhinoceros, sloth bear, chital, sambhar deer, and others. The park is famous as a birdwatching spot. The Chukchuki birdwatch point is the place where people can enjoy the exotic birds of the Gorumara national park.

If you are a nature lover then this is a paradise and you would want to visit this place at least once. This one of the favorite holiday destination for people of West Bengal.
