Dunlop Flyover Reopens Following Repairs

The Dunlop flyover was reopened by the Barrackpore traffic police, to small vehicles only, almost a month after the elevated corridor was shut. During the course of the month, urgent repair works were being carried out, as the right-turn flyover across the busy Dunlop intersection, along with a 100m stretch of the Kolkata-bound flank of BT Road, was closed to the traffic. Although the commuters did not face much inconvenience during the shutdown, now that the flyover and the BT Road stretch have been reopened, they are quite relieved. The Barrackpore City police had restricted the movement of heavy vehicles on the Dunlop flyover from September 2018, after the PWD engineers spotted a damaged bearing that required replacement. Replacement of the damaged bearing between Pier 12 and the deck slab girders right above the Bhagat Singh statue on BT Road was made by the PWD team as part of the repair work. Only two wheelers, app-cabs, private cars and minidor vans have been allowed to ply on the flyover. The vehicles heading for Barrackpore in the north and Delhi Road or GT Road in the west, use the Dunlop flyover connecting Shyambazar with Dakshineswar across the Dunlop crossing.
