Diyas to light up city

A Section of people in Kolkata has planned to recreate the magic of Varanasi’s Dev Dipawali at Prinsep Ghat. On Thursday evening prinsep Ghat will be decorated with over 1,000 diyas floating in the river on plates made of sal Leaves. The plates will be set afloat to the sound of conch shells from 15 boats to be lined up in the middle of the river. The entire ghat will be decked out with alpana and the adjoining bank will be cleaned and decorated with flowers. Three priests flown in from Varanasi will chant mantras and perform aarti.
