Raj Chakrabarty is set to remake the Ram Charan Teja-starrer Telugu blockbuster
Bollywood might still be undecided on who should feature in the Hindi remake of Magadheera, but Tollywood has already made up its mind. Dev is set to play the lead in the Bengali remake of 2009 Telugu blockbuster that starred Ram Charan Teja. Helming the camera is none other than hitmaker Raj Chakrabarty.
Directed by SS Rajamouli, the original romance drama featured Kajal Agarwal opposite Ram Charan. Confirming the news, Raj said, "Yes, we are all set to shoot with Dev and Indraneil Sengupta. I'll be adapting the story keeping the Bengali audience in mind. The story is told in a series of flashbacks. Dev will play a stunt biker. He chances upon a girl and everytime he touches her, he is reminded of a past incident. The film, which revolves around a battle between love and lust, is also about reincarnation. It will travel back 1,100 years in time. So, computer graphics will play a major role. Since the film is based on technical expertise, we are busy doing our homework. That apart, there's a historical aspect to the film too. The budget will be on the higher side; the film is likely to cost around 20 crore. The fight sequences will be something to lookout for."
Not so long ago, there were reports of a cold war between Raj and Dev, but the duo maintained silence all through. "There was no tiff with Dev. We were both busy with our individual projects and there was no movie that I did after Dui Prithibi, where Dev could have fitted in. Just because he is my friend, I can't cast him, right? I am also happy to work with Indraneil. Both Dev and Indraneil will be seen in different avatars," informed Raj.
Dev, on his part, is excited about the film. "Both Raj and I had started out together and Challenge was a turning point in our careers. Only Raj could have handled a Magadheera remake, as the film is far from easy. After Chander Pahar, this is another big challenge waiting for me," said the actor.
Indraneil too is looking forward to this movie. "I will play an out-and-out negative role in Raj's film. I am happy to work with both Dev and Raj for the first time," he said.
Though rumour mills are buzzing that model Rukmini Mitra is set to debut in this film, Raj remained tightlipped. "We might cast a new face. We are yet to lock the female lead," added Raj. Said Rukmini, "Well I do get film offers but currently I am busy pursuing my MBA course. No films for me now." The movie will go on the floors in February.
