CNG Busses introduced in WB

The West Bengal government has introduced busses powered by CNG (compressed natural gas) to be operated between Asansol and different parts of the state including the city of Kolkata. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently flagged off a fleet of busses operated by CNG which will operate under South Bengal State Transport Corporation (SBSTC). The thought behind introduction of these eco-friendly vehicles is to cut down the air pollution level across Bengal. Twenty such busses will be operating daily for now and more busses are to be added to the fleet soon. The busses are manufactured by Ashok Leyland at a cost of Rs 34 lakh each, which consists of 56 seats and a tank capacity of 110kg. The busses will use coalbed methane which is a natural gas and hence will be less noisy and the emission levels will be down. CNG is more environment friendly than diesel operated vehicles and the introduction of CNG operated vehicles will certainly reduce the pollution levels.
