Chilly spell to linger in Kolkata, till Christmas

Friday became the season’s coolest day with the mercury dropping to 13.6  degree Celsius and marking the lowest temperature so far. Saturday’s temperature was expected to go down to 13 degree along with the cool north westerly winds blowing in. The city had already recorded 13.7 degree on December 9 but this Friday the temperature overrode that and dropped even below. The reports from Met Office say, there is no obstruction to resist the chilly north westerly winds and the temperature might drop below to 12 degree by December 24 or 25. There could be two chilly spells this year and we are going through one. The next chilly spell will begin from early January. There is high pressure zone going to be formed on Saturday that will intensify the chill. Snowfalls in the Himalayas is the driving force for the weather condition to be so biting. The maximum temperature was 24.8 on Friday, making the temperature even cooler as it was two notches below normal.
