Chilled Winds To Sweep West Bengal, Weather Shift Expected In The Next 24 Hours

West Bengal is set to experience a chilly transformation in the coming days. The city is currently in the grip of a frosty breeze, with the cold wave matching the intensity of the ongoing winter stream.

As the mercury continues to drop, the temperature is expected to decrease gradually, bringing a colder spell to the region. Within the next 24 hours, light rainfall is anticipated in Darjeeling, North Bengal, while the rest of South Bengal is expected to witness a change in weather conditions starting tomorrow, Tuesday.

The Weather Office reports indicate a shift in atmospheric patterns, especially in the western districts, where the winter stream is making its presence felt, notably in Purulia and surrounding areas. The western regions, including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, North and South Dinajpur, and Malda, are on high alert for dense fog and low visibility.

Conversely, the districts of Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and the Nadia region are experiencing a dense fog warning. Many areas across the state might witness visibility dropping below 200 metres.

However, the remaining districts are expected to experience mild to moderate fog. Visibility in these regions is expected to reduce to around 500 metres.

The Weather Office predicts the likelihood of rain on Wednesday and Thursday in various parts of the state. Northern Bengal, along with the northern districts of South Bengal, has a higher chance of experiencing rainfall during this period. Sikkim, in particular, may witness precipitation and snowfall.

Meanwhile, the city of Kolkata will continue to shiver in the cold for the next 24 to 48 hours. Subsequently, temperatures are forecast to rise, accompanied by a decrease in the chilling winds. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected in Kolkata from Wednesday onwards.

As of today, the minimum temperature in Kolkata is recorded at 14.1 degrees Celsius, which is within the normal range. Yesterday, the maximum temperature reached 22.1 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, staying three degrees below the usual temperature. Additionally, the humidity levels are expected to range between 55% and 96%.

In conclusion, West Bengal is bracing itself for a weather shift, with various districts experiencing different degrees of cold, fog, and precipitation in the coming days.
