Calcutta University Asks Colleges to Hold Extra Classes

Sources have said that Calcutta University might ask the colleges affiliated under it to take extra classes for students taking admission till August 31. The higher education department has directed the colleges to extend the dates of admission. This year, the university introduced the CBCS system in B.A and B.Sc and classes have started in the middle of July.

Education Minister Partha Chatterjee stated on Monday that colleges under state universities could start the third round of admissions to undergraduate courses to fill vacant seats. This is the second time that Calcutta University extended their deadline. The state university had initially set July 10 as the last date for admission but later the deadline was extended to August 20.

vice-chancellor Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee said,

Now that the deadline has again been extended, I would request college principals to take extra classes so that the students can be prepared for the semester exams, I hope they would pay heed to our request.

The University had rolled out the CBSC system in B. Com last year. The State University earlier this year discarded the annual examination basis. The exams are now held every six months during a three year under graduation course.

According to sources, the Principal of a central Kolkata college has said they would ask professors to comply with the request of extra classes.
