Bengali Status Guide to Fish

Eating fish has been closely associated with Bengali culture since ages and taking only a few names could create a sense of bias. We have categorized the status of Bengalis according to their choice of fish.

The Elite: If you belong to the elite class, then fishes like Illish and Chingri are the ‘must eats’ at least thrice a week. They look down upon other fish as they love to maintain the perfect bong status. They take pride in sharing the pictures of their delicious recipes on social networking sites too.

The Middle tier: They prefer high profile fish like pabda, tangra and bhetki but cannot afford to eat these every day. However, these fishes are strictly reserved for weekends and for special occasions.

The staple segment: These fishes constitute the backbone of these Bengalis diet are the commonly available fishes like Katla and Rohu. This is their everyday meal and they cherish it in delightful ways.
