The origin of Chess lies in India and it is said that it has evolved from the Indian game ‘Chaturanga’ before the 600 AD. The game had spread throughout Asia and parts of Europe and eventually took its present form. Chess is one of the most competitive indoor games and is pretty exciting to watch. Recently such a competitive tournament was organized at Nava Nalanda Bhavan by the Nava Nalanda Alumni Association and Nava Nalanda Group of Schools. The tournament was named ‘Chaturanga’ and was held between April 16th and 17th. More than 100 participants took part in the tournament and made it a success. One of such participants was celebrated singer Durnibar Saha. Players from faraway places in West Bengal like Durgapur, Kankinara, Bandel etc. represented their respective educational institutions in the tournament along with players of the host school Nava Nalanda.
