Veteran actress Debashree Roy speaks candidly on Jiyo Bangla

Actress Debashree Roy is a powerhouse of talents; from dancing, acting, and choreographing to being an active animal rights activist and politician, she has always been much admired by the audience. Her acting career began at a very early age when she was cast as an infant in Hiranmoy Sen’s Bengali devotional film Pagol Thakur in 1966. She got her first leading role in Arabinda Mukhopadhyay’s film Nadi Theke Sagare in 1978.  Since then, she has worked on more than 100 films. She ruled the array of Bengali cinema in eighties and nineties and has acted in more than hundred films. She has worked in the Hindi, Odisha, Malayalam, and Tamil film industries as well. Debashree Roy has been conferred with numerous awards including a National Award and Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards. It took a lot of days and hard work for little ‘Chumki’ to become heroine Debashree. She stepped into the field of politics and stayed away from the world of cinema for about ten years till she made a come-back through the television screen. Actress Debashree Roy recently interacted with Jiyo Bangla on its segment ‘Jiyo Adda with Anindita Sarkar’ and shared her story.
