World Cancer Day being observed today

The World Cancer Day is observed on February 04th to spread awareness on Cancer and the prejudices associated with the disease. The World Cancer Day originated during the first World Summit Against Cancer, held in Paris in February 2000. During the international meet back in the year 2000, leaders of several government agencies and cancer organizations from around the globe signed the ‘Charter of Paris Against Cancer’ which contains articles that provides an outline of a global commitment for improvement of the quality of life of cancer patients and for investment in advancement of cancer research, prevention, and treatment. Since then it has been observed around the world every year, especially by the Union of International Cancer Control (UICC) which has declared it as a global intuiting initiative. World Cancer Day aims to curb down the deaths caused due to cancer by rising awareness and by persuading governments across nations to take measures to keep the disease under control. Every year the event is marked with a unique theme, the theme for this year is 'Close the Care Gap'. This year’s theme revolves around the process of identifying and recognizing global discrepancy in cancer care which causes a hindrance to essential healthcare services and facilities.
