We Don’t Need No Thought Control

A world that is gradually sailing towards the ‘IMAGINATION AGE’ a structure of education, devised in the ‘INDUSTRIAL AGE’ would require replacement. As we march on to a future, where jobs will be based on creativity, critical thinking and decision making, rather than mere following of instructions from a superior, a shift in imparting education is taking place.

Un-schooling is one such approach that is taking up its position as an alternative medium of education. Here, the environment is tailored to suit the needs of the child, to avoid streamlining the child and promote learning at his or her own pace. No structured curriculum is followed. But that does not mean that the child lacks discipline or there is no parental role involved. Rather it is a way of life, that encourages a child to make decisions from an early age, to be aware of his strengths and weaknesses and work on them and lastly to tackle and bait subjects only when he is ready. An approach that truly values individual differences, unschooling is on the rise in India with different support groups available for the kids. For readers who are wondering about the formal degrees of unschoolers, the INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF SECONDARY EDUCATION (I.G.C.S.E) examination taken, at class 10 level would take care of it. The biggest takeaway of unschooling is to let go of your worries and enjoy the process of gaining knowledge rather than being burdened with it.
