Visva Bharati to seek PM’s help on Poush Mela

The administration of Visva Bharati has decided to seek Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s, the chancellor of the central university’s help for organizing the annual Poush Mela. A few days back, the university, which organizes the Poush Mela every year since 1951 decided after rounds of meetings and discussions that it will not organize the annual fair anymore. The University had stated that they lacked adequate infrastructure to host this fair and also because it does not always conform to the green tribunal rules and regulations. Since the Pous Mela is organized on the grounds of the university, the administration of the university has unanimously decided to write to the Prime Minister to seek his help regarding this issue. Earlier, the State Government too had offered help to resolve this issue, however, Visva Bharati being a central university decided to seek Prime Minister’s help first. A senior university official said, “Being a central varsity, it will become a political issue if Visva Bharati seeks help from the state. The authorities don’t want to fall prey to politics between the Centre and the state at this moment. So, we decided to approach the prime minister first for help”.
