Vehicle charging stations to be made mandatory for housing complexes

The NKDA (New Town Kolkata Development Authority) has decided to make it mandatory for big housing complexes to reserve an area for electric vehicle charging stations. The officials of NKDA is currently trying to bring in the change by incorporating new provisions in the building rules. According to the officials, plots measuring more than two hectares will have to abide by the new provision of the law and mandatorily set up electric charging points in its premises for electric vehicles.

NKDA has already set up 10 AC slow-charging points in and around New Town which has also raised a revenue worth Rs 19,450 so far. Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has proposed to set up eight new DC fast-charging stations at various locations around the city of Kolkata including Eco Park Gate1, Eco Park Gate 4, Tata Medical Centre, Eco Space, and Axis Mall; and a Memorandum of Understanding is to be signed soon between the company and NKDA of setting up more electric charging stations in New Town. These significant steps are being taken to encourage people to use electric vehicles for reducing air pollution and global warming.
